WHY IS YOUR HELP SO IMPORTANT?
Donors’ yearly involvement through ticket purchases and annual giving is paramount to a much needed operating budget. Annual giving contributes to student-athlete scholarships and operating expenses, which are critical to helping our teams stay competitive. Gifts of all sizes impact all areas of athletics. Methods of Giving
Annual Cash Gifts
Gifts of cash, check, or charges to Visa/MasterCard/Discover, made payable to Langston Development Fund, Inc.
Annual Gifts-In-Kind
Gifts of items or services (such as catering, hotel accommodations, printing, travel, etc.) which would normally be purchased by the LU Athletics Department.
Endowed Gifts
Endowed gifts provide on-going benefits for LU Athletics and are essential to a successful future. Endowment gifts may be lump sum or paid over a period of years, and may be restricted to a particular athletic program.
Matching Gifts
Many corporations match the gifts their employees make. Before selecting matching gift on the pledge card, please check your company’s criteria to be sure it will match an athletic-related gift.
Deferred or Planned Giving
An increasingly popular method of giving is the charitable remainder trust. There are two varieties of trust, a charitable remainder unitrust and the charitable remainder annuity trust. Both can be funded through a gift during a donor’s lifetime or through a testamentary disposition. Both provide life income for the donor and/or a designated beneficiary(ies).
Life insurance can become a gift of much greater value than the actual money expended when the policy is given to the University through the LU Foundation, which is named the beneficiary. The donor either may pay up the entire policy or make annual contributions to the Foundation for the cost of the premiums.
The Langston University Foundation, Inc. often is named as a beneficiary in the wills of University alumni and friends. The donor may elect to leave all or part of an estate to benefit the University.
